Get up to Speed

Get up to Speed with STEM is an huge annual careers event designed for young people, their families and teachers, to see some of the UK's best innovations first hand, and showcasing businesses and career opportunities in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing sectors.

Through Jackie Cook at CQ, I've been involved with design for the Get up to Speed (GUTS) event for the last 4 years, and during that time, not only has the event itself expanded, but so has the range of marketing and promotional material which I've been called on to design.

When I was first drafted in, the basic branding (the GUTS logo above) had already been produced, and I was therefore required to develop the accompanying flyers, information leaflets and posters in a suitable style.

I've worked on a new design theme each year, and to promote the 2019 event using the International Space Station cupola image, I designed the 36-page event programme including several full-page adverts, general information and sponsorship leaflets, exhibitor booking form, tickets, advertising posters for schools, external hanging banners, and branded exhibition and backdrop banners on display throughout the event for the organisers, the work-wise Foundation.

I also designed a number of exhibition banners for various exhibitors throughout the event - in fact, 41 of the banners on display at this year's event were mine!

I've helped out as a volunteer on the day too for the last 3 years, and seeing my work in situ makes me really proud!

As we had exhibits from the National Space Centre, and SELA Apollo 50, the 2019 event took on a space theme, as you can see from the promotional material shown here.
